THE ENVIRONMENT
Northrop Case is committed to being on the cutting edge of environmentally responsible materials and practices for our industry.

  • We use solid wood certified as sustainably harvested by the FSC (Forestry Stewardship Council) or other similar certifying body
  • We use sheet goods that contain no added Urea-Formaldehyde
  • We use sheet goods that contain FSC-certified core materials, and some sheet goods that have a core with recycled wood content
  • We use local materials extensively
  • We use pre-finished products as much as possible, especially for cabinet interiors and drawer boxes. The finish used on these products is a very durable and environmentally friendly 100% solids acrylic
  • We use water-based, non-toxic adhesives
We deviate from these practices only if the project needs demand it.

Internally, we keep our waste to a minimum by recycling through Cedar Grove’s mixed-materials recycling program. We compost almost all compost-able wood product waste that we generate. We also donate sawdust and other manufacturing by-products to secondary users (such as sawdust for horse and pony bedding, and scrap wood to hobbyists). We use compact fluorescent light bulbs in the office and fluorescent lights in the shop to keep our energy footprint low. We batch orders from our vendors as much as possible to reduce fuel consumption.

Additionally, we have a deep knowledge of local recycled and reclaimed materials, as well as our own storehouse of wood reclaimed from projects around the Seattle area.

Northrop Case is not certified green by any third-party agency. We are not certified as part of the FSC Chain of Custody.
